One way to help further engage the visual sensory experience of slime is to use color-shifting pigment in it. Keep reading to learn how to make your own color-shifting slime.
Gather Your Supplies
The first step to making any slime is to gather your supplies. We offer clear craft slime on our website, but we know that some people prefer to make their own. If you choose to use our clear, premade slime, all you’ll need is that slime and color-shifting pigment powder. If you want to make your own slime from scratch, you’ll need a few more supplies:
- Clear or white liquid glue
- A measuring spoon
- A measuring cup
- Borax
- Water
- A mixing bowl
- Color-shifting pigment powder
- Two mixing devices like spatulas or spoons
Mix Your Slime
If you’re using premade slime, you can add pigment powder to the slime container and stir until combined, or remove the slime from its container and mix in the pigment powder. You can use gloves if you don’t want to stain your hands, but they’re not necessary.
For those making their own slime with the supplies that we listed above, you can start by pouring your glue into the mixing bowl. You can use half of a bottle of glue, a whole bottle of glue, or even more than one bottle. It all depends on how much slime you want to make.
Once the glue is in the bowl, turn your attention to the borax. Measure out roughly one teaspoon of borax and mix that into about one cup of lukewarm water. Stir until thoroughly combined. Then, you can pour small amounts of the borax mixture into the glue. Mix the glue and the borax mixture together until it forms a sticky slime. You probably won’t use the full cup of borax, but that’s okay.
Once you’ve created your slime, you can add your color-shifting powder. Mix in as much powder as you want to create the color effect that you desire. Since all the shimmer and shine is in the powder, you don’t have to do anything but knead it into the slime and enjoy it.
Safe Storage
Now that you’ve made incredible color-shifting slime, you’ll want to keep it safe for future use. Store your slime in a sealed container, as air will make it dry out. Many people use plastic bags because they make it easy to push the slime out, but other types of sealed containers will do, even food storage containers.
Now you know how to make your own color-shifting slime that will last and provide you with a great sensory experience whenever necessary.
